Tobogganing in SkiWelt
The Wilder Kaiser region in Tyrol is well known far beyond its borders for its natural and excellently maintained winter toboggan runs and has established itself as a popular meeting place for tobogganing enthusiasts. With a total of more than 12 kilometers, some artificially snowed, and spread over four family-friendly runs, ideal conditions for exciting tobogganing adventures are provided.
The cable cars in Söll and Going enable a quick and comfortable ascent to the starting points. But even after dusk, the fun doesn't end: Four illuminated toboggan runs guarantee enjoyable descents into the night.
HexenrittThe toboggan run on the Hohe Salve starts near the top station of the Hexenwasser gondola. This thrilling route winds through the forest and lives up to its name, "Hexenritt" (Witch's Ride). It takes courage to dynamically master the curves on the fast tracks. After about 4 kilometers, the exciting adventure ends shortly after the Stampfanger Chapel, near the bottom station of the Hexenwasser gondola.
Along the route, witchy surprises add extra excitement. Additionally, the toboggan run is equipped with a fixed snowmaking system, ensuring continuous fun.
Moon Toboggan RunThe Moon Toboggan Run is an evening delight and opens its gates from Wednesday to Saturday, each time illuminated. Current opening hours can be found on the Bergbahnen Söll website (www.skiwelt.at).
For the ascent, you can comfortably use the Hexenwasser gondola, with the start of the toboggan run located just below the Alpengasthof Hochsöll. The run, over 8 meters wide, passes by the Stöcklalm and offers ideal overtaking opportunities due to its width and few curves. The 4-kilometer-long, easy route is especially suitable for families, who can enjoy safe tobogganing on winding paths. The run is not only illuminated by moonlight but also artificially snowed and well-lit, creating a romantic setting for an unforgettable winter night.
AstbergIf you prefer to climb the mountain on foot with your sled, start at the Ellmau parish church and hike for about an hour on the road to the Hausberg. There you will reach the first access to the toboggan run at the Treichlhof. If you aim for the summit, continue for another 15 minutes to the Jezz Alm.
Alternatively, the Astbergbahn offers a comfortable ascent for tobogganing enthusiasts. After a small refreshment in one of the mountain inns, the thrilling 4.5-kilometer descent through the forest to the valley begins. In the lower section, the run branches off and leads either to the Hotel der Bär in Ellmau or directly to the bottom station in Going. For evening toboggan adventures, the route is illuminated, offering a special experience when navigating curves in the dark.
AstbergSwing the sled! For those who prefer sleds to skis, tobogganing in Going is a real pleasure: The Astbergbahn takes you comfortably to the start of the toboggan run, where you can race down to the valley to Going or take the branch to Ellmau.
From Wednesday to Sunday, the Astbergbahn also operates in the evening from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, comfortably taking you to the start of the illuminated evening toboggan run. Enjoy the special nighttime thrill as you speed down the illuminated track.
